Third-party cookies and invisible trackers are used for advertising, social media platforms and website analytics. These cookies allow other companies other than the site you are visiting to gather information about you without your knowledge. UR prevents these cookies and trackers from collecting information about you. Only you can authorize them.
Many websites allow third-party cookies to be set on your browser. This can be implemented for things like website analytics or commenting. However, third-party cookies are in large part set for advertising purposes.
Websites want to track you around the web, even when you're not on their website. The more data they can find about you through search and browsing history, the better profile they can create about you, without you even knowing it.
Advanced Private Browsing
More than just your normal private mode: surf the web with normal tabs next to Ninja Mode (private browsing) tabs, all in the same window. When you use Ninja Mode, all your tracks are automatically erased when you close your Ninja tabs.
Do you always use certain websites in Ninja Mode? Add them to your Ninja List and the next time you type in one of these URLs, it will automatically load in Ninja Mode. No more scrambling to erase your history.
In Ninja Mode, we don't save passwords, searches, browsing history or cookies. Autofill and passwords are disabled and any login you make while in Ninja Mode will be forgotten when you exit the last Ninja tab you have open.
We don't send any personal data to Google
Google's open source code, Chromium, has built-in tracking that can allow your information to be shared. Although UR is built with Chromium, these built-in trackers from Google have been removed.
Chromium has the advantage of regularly being updated, which allows us to offer our users a high level of security. However, certain features may negatively affect your privacy. This is why we have deactivated, replaced or removed them.

Search engines that respect your privacy
We've rounded up the best alternative search engines around the web! UR sets Qwant as the default search engine, but you are free to customize your search engine in the settings. Others include Lilo, Ecosia and StartPage. Find out more about all the different search engines in UR.

Your data is strongly protected by EU laws
UR and its partners are based in the European Union, where online privacy is better protected in comparison to other countries, namely the United States. Your data is therefore safe and you can exercise your rights in accordance with European legislation.

Block ads in a click
A built-in ad blocker lets you block ads that could otherwise grab sensitive information about you. Depending on how much trust you have for a website, you can easily decide to accept or block ads on it.
The ad blocker is automatically activated in Medium and High Privacy. If you want to allow ads, you must switch to Low Privacy.

Making it harder to identify you without your knowledge
Cookies and trackers are used to track you across the internet while you browse. Because UR blocks most third-party cookies, UR makes it much harder for websites to identify you. Without this shared aggregated data, companies cannot create and sell deep profiles about you.
Deeper profile = highly targeted ads.
Highly targeted ads = more chance to buy the product.
Your data = money.
Reduce your digital "fingerprint"
To limit your browser being identified, we continually randomize your device information. This means that you will appear as a different user across the web, even if you return to the same website.
Your browser sends several pieces of information (device type, operating system, certain compatibilities, IP address, etc.) when it loads a page. If you have plugins installed, it is even easier to identify it, as it makes your browser even more unique (how many people do you know from your location who have the same computer, same plugins, etc.?). All of this information together that can identify you—without cookies—this is what we call a “digital fingerprint.”

Secure and anonymize your internet activity
Sometimes just surfing the net in Ninja Mode or High Privacy Mode is not sufficient. Whenever your visit websites, streams of data are exchanged between your PC and the websites' servers, through your Internet connection. If you are using a public WiFi, for example, it’s easy for cyber-criminals to steal your personal data, passwords or financial information by hacking the WiFi or setting fake Wifi networks.
The same goes for your Internet provider which controls your Internet connection, and therefore could have access to visited websites and much more. In various cases government agencies work with Internet providers to gain access to recorded and live data. All are posible scenarios unless you take steps to keep your connection hidden and encrypted with a VPN!
